Waiting for an assessment can be a stressful time for both the individual, and their families and support networks.
If your loved one is waiting for an assessment, it may be useful to read some of the information from the National Autistic Society to help understand autism better – this will also be beneficial if your family member could use support when communicating their needs with professionals.
It is important that you also look after your own health, and seek support if you are struggling. Counselling can help you to think through your feelings and consider possible coping strategies.
The National Autistic Society can help you find counsellors with autism experience, using their Autism Services Directory here
You may also like to make contact with others in the same position for understanding, support and advice, and the National Autistic Society’s online community is open to everyone. View the community page here
