Eating Disorder Clinics

The St Andrew’s Eating Disorder Clinic offers assessment and treatment for people who may have an eating disorder such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia or Binge Eating Disorder.  We can also support people with disordered eating such an Avoidant and Restrictive Food and Intake Disorder (ARFID).

Many people with an eating disorder have another mental health condition associated with it, including:

What are the benefits of using St Andrew's Eating Disorder Clinic?

  • Faster assessments and treatment
  • We provide a seamless transition for people aged 17 who may spend time on CAMHS waiting lists ahead of their 18th birthday
  • We can support people who do not treat the threshold for mainstream services but where their eating is having an impact on their life and health
  • Assessment and treatment from a highly qualified and experienced clinical team

What does the service offer?

Initial Assessment – 1.5 hours

Referrals are normally sent in by your GP and we would need certain information to be included, such as relevant bloods tests and an ECG.  We would review your psychiatric history and perform an examination of your mental state. From there, we are able to make a diagnosis.

Treatment options

With an accurate diagnosis, you have the option to refer to an NHS service, although the option for 45 minute appointments with St Andrew’s Eating Disorder Clinic would include:

  • Motivation and Psycho-education work
  • Developing a food diary
  • Problem solving
  • National Institute of Clinical Excellence approved psychological treatments
  • Specialist treatments for those where NICE treatments have been unsuccessful.
  • Medication for those who have an associated mental health condition
  • Direction as to self help guides and charities that can provide support

Once our treatment programmes have been completed, you have the option to access further support services from your GP or request a referral on to another local service to provide ongoing support.
