About

Dr. Kevin Beckles is an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist currently working in the field of Clinical Neuropsychology within the Neuropsychiatry Division at St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northampton. He qualified as a Clinical Psychology in 2021 upon completion of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Plymouth. The experiences there shaped his perspectives on psychological practice including the importance of the systems within which people live, power, diversity, inclusion, and equity. He is currently pursuing further postgraduate training in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Bristol in pursuit of his goal of becoming a registered Clinical Neuropsychologist

Kevin has worked in a variety of mental health settings in both Barbados and the UK, utilising multiple psychological models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Kevin also mentors aspiring psychologists from ethnic minority backgrounds, helping them to reflect on and discuss race, leadership, and systemic racism. Kevin has a specialist interest in cross-cultural neuropsychology, decolonisation, and the intersections of systemic disadvantage including disabling environments.

While completing his doctoral training at the University of Plymouth, he was a founding member of their Inclusion, Power, and Diversity Group which was established to make systemic changes to clinical training. He, along with the other trainee members of the group were awarded the 2021 Pre-qualification Award by the Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP) and the 2021 UPSU Mel Joyner SSTAR Award for Championing Equality and Diversity. Now at St Andrew’s Healthcare, Kevin continues to work in this space alongside his main clinical activities and is Co-chair of the UNITY staff network which supports PoC members of staff and is a member of the PCREF working group, helping to develop the charity’s anti-racism framework.

""Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." – James Baldwin. This quote reflects my approach to working with clients.
